Where are all the Black writers on Substack?
I've found some of them and they are almighty
That’s me - Nova Reid up to mischief. I am a writer, storyteller, producer of many things, author of The Good Ally and I am both curious and agitated by human behaviour.
In no particular order, I write about healing, love, boundaries, race, Black women, relationships and anything that moves me. Sometimes, when I am feeling brave, my unrefined poetry makes a cameo appearance.
I joined Substack just over a year ago and I quite like it here. But I noticed very quickly, that almost everything Substack kept recommending to me in my timeline, was very vanilla.
I asked - where are all the Black writers on Substack? Where are all the amazing Black creatives not just writing about race and politics, but well, you know - life? I knew they were here and put a note out and you all came through and then some. You asked me to do a round up post, (it’s only taken me over a year) and here it is.
I made an attempt to put these into categories, but writers do what we often do and change our minds about what we want to write about - so I ditched that idea and have simply listed names and/or publications.
I love reading, interacting with and learning from a range of Black writers, so I have pooled these together in the hope that it helps you feel more at home here too. By no means is this list exhaustive - but just a taste of some of mine and all of your favourites - so please feel to add yourself and others you like in the comments - as I will not have the capacity to keep updating this post. @black

We could do a whole season of a Podcast of Black Substack writers!!! Anyone up to partner on that?
Love this! Wait - I just realized I never had you featured on The Cookout Library! Long overdue!
